Message pricing & cost estimates
How RCSync prices each message and where the cost estimate shows up in the app.
The two tiers
Every message you send falls into one of two pricing tiers, set by your admin:
- Tier A — plain text, 160 characters or fewer, with no suggested replies.
- Tier B — everything else: longer text, rich content (cards, carousels, file attachments), or any message that has suggested-reply chips attached.
The two tiers apply to RCS campaigns. SMS campaigns are billed by segment at a separate per-segment rate (also set by your admin): a message counts as more than one segment once it exceeds the SMS character limit, which is shorter when it contains emoji or other non-GSM characters. The SMS estimate is based on the message body as written — actual segments can vary once personalization tokens are filled in, so it's shown as an estimate.
Email campaigns are simpler still: one flat rate per email delivered, with no tiers and no segments. Length, images, and the number of links make no difference to what an email costs. The rate is a small fraction of an RCS or SMS message, which is why email is usually the cheapest way to reach a large list.
How the estimate is calculated
For a campaign with multiple messages, RCSync prices each message independently and sums them per recipient. The total estimate is:
total = audience size × (sum of per-message tier prices)
What counts as the audience
The audience size is the number of valid, non-suppressed recipients on the campaign. Suppression-list matches are already excluded before the estimate is shown. For recurring campaigns the total is shown per run; the estimate doesn't project across future runs.
Open (webhook) campaigns
Open campaigns don't have a fixed audience — they react to incoming requests — so the cost is shown as a per-request rate instead of a total.
Aura Offers campaigns
An Aura Offers campaign has no audience to multiply either: the picker decides who is due and how often. There's no up-front total, so cost is reported as it accrues — each send is priced onto the run as it happens, exactly like any other campaign, and shows on the cost card. On top of the message cost, each offer decision is a model call that draws Aura credits; the campaign page breaks that out per delivered message.
Where it appears
- Campaign editor — a tier badge sits next to the message editor and updates live as you type. The Review step shows the estimated total for the whole campaign.
- Campaign view — the Overview tab has an Estimated cost metric card.
- Analytics tab → Runs table — each completed run shows the cost snapshotted at the time it sent. Runs that finished before this feature shipped show a dash.
- Campaigns list — there's an Est. cost column for each row.
Caveats
- SMS fallback messages are not priced separately in this release. The estimate reflects only the RCS content.
